Book Publicity: The Big Short

The Big Short - Inside the Doomsday Machine

Michael Lewis, the bestselling chronicler of Wall Street’s excesses, returns to the world’s turbulent financial markets with his newest book. Lewis comes  to Newman Communications for a book publicity tour that had him winning over radio audiences nationwide. Lewis was interviewed on three separate occasions on the Westwood One Radio Network and twice for the  Fox Radio Network. Newman’s publicity campaign also included  WOR – AM in NY, WCBS /NY and the Wall Street Journal Radio Network. Stations throughout the country also had a chance to talk to the author whose last book was made into the movie  The Blind Side and which the Academy Awards gave top honors this year to actress Sandra Bullock.

About the Book:

The Big Short is  an illuminating and often frightening tale of the current global financial catastrophe from an unusual perspective: that of the winners. It  follows the very small but very intelligent set of contrarian misfits brave enough to stand apart from the madding crowd, those skeptical enough to not be fooled by soaring house prices, and smart enough to recognize how criminal mismanagement, predatory lending and the chronic mispricing of complex financial derivatives would bring the whole edifice crumbling down, sooner rather than later. And because they were also willing to bet money on the boom going bust, these misfits made enormous profits even as the world’s financial markets shattered.

THE BIG SHORT delivers a dark portrait of modern American finance and its impact on the world, as well as a character-rich tale of hubris, nemesis and Wall Street greed.

The Times is interested in holding a discussion between Michael Lewis and Andrew Ross Sorkin, author of “Too Big to Fail.” The date would be Sept. 28 1 pm at TheTimesCenter. I can tell you more if this possibility materilises. Thanks, Carol

Community Read for Los Altos, CA

The Writers Week committee would like to invite Mr. Lewis as our featured author to speak about his writing and read from his books at an evening event advertised and open to public. Writers Week at Los Altos High is scheduled February 7-11, 2011 and we usually prefer for the main author to speak either Tuesday or Wednesday of that week. The event is very well attended.
Writers Week has been an annual event at Los Altos High School for over twenty five years. Los Altos High School is a very diverse school. This event brings approximately thirty writers (novelists, poets and journalists) to our school each year. Writers come to each English class to speak about their individual work as well as the life and craft of a writer. We incorporated the Community Read into the program six years ago, when the new theater was built on the school campus with a seating capacity of over 300.
Past speakers have included ZZ Packer,Amy Tan, Daniel Handler and Khaled Hosseini. Everyone is invited to read the author’s work beforehand and Kepler’s bookstore organizes the book sale and signing at the end of the evening. We are able to offer a small honorarium and would love to have you join our committee for dinner before the evening event. The event is presented without charge, with contributions going to support Writers Week at Los Altos High School . Again, this is a wonderful community event.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.
